Dogs Of Extinction

| Pet Alert Notice |

DNA testing and fossil examinations show that dogs originated possibly as far as 150,000 years ago.  Paintings of the Pharaoh Hound date way back to 3000-4000 B.C.  Dogs were around in Bible days because they are mention in bible passages.  There is evidence that thousands of years ago man had already selected different breeds distinguished by their size and morphology, making it clear that man has been raising different kinds of dogs according to what he needed for hunting, shepherding, herding, defending, guarding, sledding, pulling, or just to play with his children. The genetic structure of the dog has been manipulated for thousands of years by man, man searching for the perfect dog that matches certain needs.  Breeders work to improve health, physical structure, quality, temperaments and intelligence.  Lately it seems that the only people who care about the future of the purebred dogs are the breeders who raise them. We have somehow revolutionized into a generation where many feel we no longer have a need for dogs, therefore the purebred dog is in great danger of extinction.  Realistically it has taken thousands of years to create our 300+ breeds so the thought that it will only take 10-15 years to undo all of this work is astonishing.

     *   What a shame it is to think that there may no longer be purebred dogs.

     *   What a shame it is to think that our 300 + gorgeous breeds to choose from may no longer be in our future.

Why, you ask?  What is this crazy lady talking about?

Well, it seems that the animal rights movements taking place each and every day want to make it illegal for people to breed dogs.  Yes, really illegal.  This law not only affects our purebred dogs but it affects you as an individual.  Most people do not think about what the world would be without their beloved canine companion, do you?   Do you not admire the many gorgeous breeds of dogs in our world today?  Well of course, whether you are honest enough to admit it or not, you really know that you do.   Lets take a short trip into our future:  sit back in your chair and imagine our world 10 years from now when most of our beloved pets have crossed that rainbow bridge.  Would you be looking for another soon?  They say 2 out of every 3 people will add a new canine to their family less then one month after losing their loved one.  This leaves 1 out of every 3 persons the rest of their life to add another canine and do you know that more then half of them will add a dog to their family within a one year time frame.  Dogs make people happy!  So why is it that the people in United States of America seem to be pushing so hard to make it illegal for us to have and raise dogs?

     *More than 59% of all homes have at least one dog, and only 35% of US households have children under the age of 18.

     *Do you love your dog?  Of course you do, you wouldn't have your dog if you didn't...

     *Wouldn't you do anything for him/her?  Of course you would this is a member of your family that you love dearly.

Even if you are not a dog lover I'm sure you know many people who would give up almost anything for their beloved canine companion.  Having Rover come greet you at the door when you get home from that hectic job, where you only put in your time for the pay check, just makes you feel special doesn't it!  Well of course it does!  Anyone would feel loved and special.  Your kids are probably off in the other room playing video games but your little Rover he's there to see you and boy is he happy you're home.

Even though less than 25% of dogs in shelters are actually purebred, dog breeders are being beat down and put at fault for dog over population by the animals rights organizations.  The Animal Rights organizations have put anyone who raises a litter of puppies all into one class, and labeled as "BAD PEOPLE".  Think about this now -- what is a bad person?  Bad people should be those that abuse their children, their pets and/or others...  There are many things that make a person bad but why is it that dog breeders are labeled as bad?  Let me tell you what my answer to this question is:  "for lack of public knowledge".  You as the potential adoptor and care giver "to be" of this animal should be doing your research, your homework, and you should know exactly what you are getting into before you accept the responsibility of adopting this pet.  Maybe we should refer to "adoption" as a purchase due to the fact that an adoption is meant to last forever...  In Either case, you should take the responsibility to ask questions, educate yourself and learn all that you can before the adoption of any species, not after.  Do not buy on impulse just because it's cute and snuggly, hey its going to grow up someday you know!  This sweet snuggly and cute little somebody is going to take endless hours of work, commitment and responsibility!   Pets are surrendered by people who invest thousands of dollars or sometimes only hundreds of dollars but in either situation they are almost always surrendered by someone who did not do their homework prior to their purchase.  Animal shelters are an easy way out when the purchaser is in a bind or tires of their dog, and breeders are the ones blamed for this!  Did the breeder put the dog in the shelter?

          *   It has been estimated that 8 million dogs are surrendered to shelters each year, where more than 1/2 are euthanized.

What a shame it is to think that the puppies breeders work endless hours raising, go to new homes with the possibility that they will be dumped into a shelter and then put to sleep.  Animal shelters and rescue organizations make a hefty profit from keeping the misconception of the truth going.

I feel shelters are murderers who really kill rather than rescue. They make themselves out to be heroes when they are in fact killing not saving!

Story Exposing HSUS Buried: Read Transcript

Shelters are sometimes funded by a city or state and all are funded by donations, volunteers and adoption fees.  There are thousands of jobs created paying wages ranging from $20,000.00 to as high as $500,000.00 per employee (I'm sure some are paid more than this too but I have found no publications of higher wages) yet most of these organizations claim to be non-profit.  Some might wonder who the good guys really are when you think this shelter cycle through.  Some Shelter facilities are million dollar facilities with all brand new vehicles and equipment.  How many breeders have you visited who have these luxuries?  Keep reading for an example of what I am talking about...

The U.S. now imports around 300,000 dogs per year from other countries (U.S. Centers for Disease Control estimate) and the number grows annually. Some animal shelters are importing from the streets of other nations in order to have adoptable animals available. If we truly have 'pet overpopulation,' why would this be? Read more by Walt Hutchens at:  http://www.pet-law.com/

Why anyone would take their beloved pet to a place that will put it down has confused me for years. Please take time to investigate the facility or have a heart and find a NO KILL FACILITY.  Come on people lets keep these loving animals alive. Please be sure if you are surrendering to ANY shelter ANY where that you read the fine print to be sure your animal will not be euthanized when you walk out their door.  If you are donating to a facility, I recommend buying them a gift certificate, or dog item.  There are good facilities out there, you just need to do your homework and read the small print.  Here is an example of what I found at a $675,000.00 facility that I checked out online:

In their mission statement I founds statements like:

1.  Prevent cruelty to animals

2.  Provide shelter and compassionate care for abused, neglected, lost, and unwanted animals

3.  Adopt animals into loving, responsible homes

4.  Educate adults and children about the importance of spay/neutering to control the pet overpopulation

5.  Enforce animal protection laws

6.  A Voice for Those Who Cannot Speak

When reading their surrender contract I found statements in small print like: "For animals available for adoption there is no set holding period. It may be an hour, a day, a week, or longer.  Those animals not placed for adoption will be euthanized, (humanely put to death) by painless injection of sodium pentobarbital soon after they are examined.  We will not call you before the animal is euthanized."   This facility is supported by more than 15 surrounding municipals/cities... Here is an interesting ad on their website, this ad really threw me as they have tons of pages, articles and links which discredit, cut on, belittle, and down right talk rudely about breeders of animals, yet it appears to me that they too are breeding animals.  I had to reword the following to remove the name of the facility but it reads:   We currently have several pregnant cats or nursing mothers with kittens that are in need of caring homes where they can stay while the kittens are nursing and growing.  Once they are old enough they are brought back and put up for adoption... The shelter depends on you to make its program work. Be sure to return the animal to the shelter at the scheduled time.

So what makes this facility any different from a breeder?  Have they done health testing?  Have they done research into pedigrees? They are raising these kittens to fund their facility, and the foster home must provide the good quality food and necessary supplies...  I'm sure there are many other facilities like this, yet the public is led to believe that these places are saving lives, protecting animals, and that they are better than a dog breeder.  Information on their own website states things like: The indiscriminate breeding of companion animals for the commercial pet industry has resulted in many large-scale breeding operations.  Smaller “backyard breeders” are also exacerbating the problem by engaging in questionable breeding practices, and may not realize they are adding to the overpopulation problem.  Poor breeding practices often result in animals with genetic problems, both physical and related to their temperament. We oppose mass, indiscriminate and irresponsible breeding of companion animals and “puppy mill” operations. We also believe that this type of breeding is unnecessary. We seek to eliminate irresponsible breeders and mass indiscriminate breeding establishments in the state through public education to eliminate the market for such animals, and by supporting the enforcement of current laws and regulations, and enactment of legislation that will further support the elimination of these establishments and their practices. We applaud elected officials who have made this issue a priority... Become a member, send us your donations.

Their non-profit 501C(3) has a fully paid for 5500 square foot facility valued at more than $675,000.00, they have a board of directors, they pay more than 15 employees, and have a few paid for brand new $60,000.00 vehicles.   Now here's what almost killed me, at the time that I wrote this they had just 12 dogs advertised and 61 cats (half were listed as babies/young) I think I asked this earlier but: how many dog breeders do you know who have 15+ employees and all of these benefits?  Dog breeders are no longer referred to as DOG BREEDERS, but now we are called "puppy mills" and referred to as "prisoners of greed".  This facility receives hundreds of thousands of dollars each year from the public, money from the city, money from local businesses, and money from many other source...  What the blinded public fails to realize is that their money is not going towards the animals intended, instead it is used to pay these 15+ employees high wages... Yet the dog breeder is the prisoner of greed?  Wow!   Rewording their mission statement might sound something like a posting that I found on craigslist, Author is unknown at this time:  "We are here to take in your quality healthy dogs, tell you that we have spent hundreds on it, judge everyone interested, and rehome it for hundreds. We will do everything in our power to be sure our animals are the only ones you will find. We will spread false words about any and all breeders. We will make you feel guilty if you don't choose to adopt from us. We will lie, cheat, and steal to bring you the best possible selection. We will constantly beg for donations, we like pet supplies but prefer money. We will make sure you keep your adopted dog through surprise visits. If you don't want it, you will be forced to give it back at no cost to us. Any health problems with your adopted dog is totally your problem. If you don't fix such problems we will turn you in to the proper authorities, and take your pet and charge you for neglect.  Have a nice day and enjoy your adopted pet."

If you, or someone you know, surrendered a dog:  please take just 5 minutes of your time, call and ask where your dog is today.  Shelters may tell you that the information you are asking for is "confidential information" there is no such confidentiality contract in regards to canine law.  Is your dog still alive and well or is it?

Studies show that the top reasons dogs are dumped into shelters are:

          *   the owner has tired of the extra work required

          *   moving

          *   landlord issues

          *   personal problem

          *   lack of time

          *   lack of money

          *   the mix breed dog is just was not what the family thought it would be as an adult dog

and these reasons all go back to repeat:

"You as the potential adoptor and care giver "to be" of this animal should be doing your research, your homework, and you should know exactly what you are getting into before you accept the responsibility of adopting this pet."

and

"Animal shelters are an easy way out when the owner is in a bind or tires of their dog."

In our new generation the breeders hard work and dedication to the past 150,000 years seems to be forgotten.

The public has forgotten that dog breeders have provided almost all of the funding for research into canine health?  The more breeders support these cutting-edge canine health organizations, the more all dog owners and dog lovers benefit, even you!  Breeders have made healthier, happier dogs with longer life spans.  Without breeders all dogs would be mixed breed mutts, not the cute little mutts that come from crossing 2 purebreds with an assigned fancy name like "Designer", but some scroungie mutt looking possibly like a wolf or a dingo or who knows what.  Link here for one vets opinion on health information and mix breed dogs.  Mutts are not healthier than purebred dogs, they can and do have many health problems...

          *   Without breeders would we have purebred dogs at all?

          *   Without breeders there would be the chance that the human race just might not exist.

          *   Thanks to breeders dogs have evolved with us through time.

Unfortunately for dogs, they have gone from being our work companions, our guardians, our hunters and our pets to quite possibly being no longer needed in our society today.  In the near future we will most likely see that dogs will be illegal to breed.  Are people saying that we have no future need for dogs?  Are people saying that we have no need for love and companionship from our canine friends?  If this is so then I am afraid of what our future generations hold.  Everyone needs love and companionship, even you!

A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.
-Josh Billings-

No one ever wants to admit that they are wrong, even the animal rights organizations.  This finger pointing to blame someone else is a common problem in our world today.  I feel that we really need dogs even in our new generations to come, dogs make people happy!  If you agree please read on:

           *   Have you heard about the new laws that are up for review?

           *   Do you know what your state laws are in regards to dogs?

           *   These are issues that most individuals who have 3  or fewer pets knows nothing about.

Please think about what I have taken the time to say here:

Take a few moments out of your busy day and write a letter to support our freedom of expression in regards to our canine companions!  Send your letter to President Obama and to Congress!   I am not going to write a letter for you -- you need to state your own opinion -- stand up for your right to love your dog!  I want my future grandchildren, great grandchildren and all of their children to be able to have a special canine in their life someday, do you?

President Obama & family chose a breeder and now have an AKC registered dog, be sure to thank them for making this choice, link here to read more.

Write to Congress today, link here for the Congressional Directory:  http://www.congress.org/congressorg/directory/leadership_list.tt

Don't forget to write to Oprah too, telling her you love your dog!

Issues to include in your letter:

     *   We need breeders to keep our canine breeds, all 300 + breeds.

     *   We need breeders to keep our canine health testing and progress growing.

     *   We need breeders so that we are able to have our canines to love!

     *   I am opposed to the concept of breeding permits, breeding bans or mandatory spay/neuter of purebred dogs.

      *    My future grandchildren, great grandchildren and all of their children should be able to decide for themselves if they want to have a special canine in their life someday.  This should not be a decision made by anyone but them.

     *   I support reasonable and enforceable laws that protect the welfare and health of purebred dogs and which do not restrict the rights of breeders and owners who take their responsibilities seriously.

Remember, not everyone loves dogs. Stick the facts of universal principles, honest government, and freedom...

Include your complete contact information, your full name, full mailing address, telephone number, and also email address.  If this information is not included they will most likely not take your letter serious and will toss it in the garbage can...
